Postpartum, Support and Lactation
Many people ask me why I became a postpartum doula. I look at birth work as a compilation of specialties. If you were to walk into a hospital, or a medical office, what you would find is a structure containing many individuals and professionals who have all chosen to focus on a particular system (or practice). Becoming a postpartum doula and joining the world of birth work was inspired by my own experiences. Each birth worker may have their own story to tell, or was inspired by a story of someone they know, or even by the stories of the many families affected by our system of managing birth and maternal health. Knowing your support and the reason why they choose to support in the ways that they do is important!
I tend to focus heavily on lactation for the families that I serve. Lactation is an anchor for the many emotional and physical feelings in the postpartum period. This isn’t to say that I’m not sufficient to provide support to families who choose not to provide human milk to their infant, this is solely to provide emphasis on the reason that a family may need a postpartum doula who also specializes in lactation.
While discussing your needs, you may opt to add lactation services to your package. These services are strategically planned and coordinated to coexist while you experience the expected changes (and any unexpected challenges) in your journey. Access to these services provide you a lactation specialist with individualized resources for your specific needs.
Lactation Services are not included in the postpartum doula service package. Each lactation visit will be scheduled separately from your postpartum support visits. If you’re ready to discuss scheduling your postpartum support package, please reach out to schedule a complimentary call to learn more!
