Meconium – very dark, sticky, tar-like material that is excreted the first time the baby poops.  Meconium is the first poop for all babies, whether breast-fed or not.  This should happen within the first 24 hours.

Transitional – as poop transitions into a more regular color and consistency, you will notice different shades of green as it lightens towards a more yellow color.  You’ll notice this color change within the first 48 hours through day 3-4

Normal breastfed baby poop – mustard yellow, seedy, sometimes liquidy – After day 3 and as transitional breast milk matures, baby’s poop will continue to transition from a darker green into a lighter green, then to a completely mustard yellow color.  The consistency may be liquidy, there may also appear to be seeds in the poop as milk continues to transition into mature milk.  Once milk is mature, poop will continue to be various shades of a seedy mustard yellow and sometimes liquidy consistency.
